Going for a Wildflower Hunt

We had a special treat earlier this month. My mom and dad came to visit from Texas for three days. It was so wonderful to catch up with them. We did some history touring, bowling, buffeting, and tons and tons of chatting. For an evening and morning during the three days, my brother and his family passed through on thier way back from a Michigan vacation. That was a blast too! We showed them around our place, went wildflower picking (abby did a beautiful job arranging them in vases when we got back and they lasted a whole week after they left) and my favorite, chicken chasing. What a great weekend!

Daniel and Anita tied the knot this summer and it was beautiful . It had a camo theme. Lucas was a groomsmen, Nora was a flower girl, and I took the pictures. Everything went so well. There ceremony was nice and the reception was a party with hamburgers, hot dogs, fising, dancing, and fireworks. I know a good time was had by all. The icing on the cake was a summer rain towards the end of the reception and some of the kids went out in it and played. Congratulations guys!

My Homemade Half Marathon April 11, 2009

Last April I ran a homemade marathon. I had been training all winter for the Abilene, KS Eisenhower marathon. However, as race day came closer we realized that between gas, a place to stay, and entry fee, we were looking at over $150. (Money we'd rather spend on other things) So a little bit bummed, I decided to just run the same distance at home. That morning as I was lacing up my shoes, I asked Lucas if he would cheer for me and he hesitantly agreed. But to my surprise he had gathered up lots of our friends and family, made signs, and had little cheer and water stations set up along my whole route!!! What a hubbie! It turned out to be a blast. And another perk was I got first place!

Cheesemaking

The lady who sold us our goats has become such a good friend to us. She taught me how to make three kinds of cheese using goats milk. Mozzarella, lemon cheese(middle), and chevre(in the cup). All of them oh so good! What surprised me was how much milk it takes to actually make cheese. It took a whole gallon just to make that little cake of mozzarella! Thanks Jean.

A Red Cowboy Hat

We went to the 4 state farm show last Sunday with the Squires to look around and drool at all the neat, expensive equipment. It was very sunny and I forgot to bring either a hat or sunscreen for Nora's little nose and cheeks. We were on our way out to find something at walmart when we passed a beautiful, bright red cowboy hat. Problem solved.
